More Applesauce Please!

As I mentioned a few posts back, I have a lot of options when it comes to what to knit next.  There are a few already on the needles (Traveling Woman, Vertical Stripes and Sinful Ribbed Scarf).  I think Vertical Stripes may get the most attention out of those in the coming days.

I am also very anxious to get started on Haruni, but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment of winding all that yarn into a ball to use.  800 yards is a lot to wind by hand.  I'd love a ball winder and I'm trying to convince J to make me a swift (after seeing Melissa's swift made by her husband!), but neither of those things will be immediate (read: done by the end of the day).  So we'll see how long it takes me to accomplish this small task.  Once the yarn is wound, I'll dive in.

So, with all my knitting options, I have decided to.....dye more yarn. :) Not something I had on the list (well - it's on my to-do list).  Or at the very least, to prepare to dye more yarn.  This time it will be wool and I'll be trying some kind of microwave or stove top method of dying.

I've got my Koolaid/Jell-O/food coloring.
I've got the wool.
I've got the water and white vinegar.   I'm waiting on my containers.  I know this is a simple: go to the store, buy canning jars.  But since I don't plan on doing a lot at once, I thought I'd save myself some money by using jars I already have.
Problem: Jars are currently filled with my grandma's homemade applesauce.  YUM!!
X loves his applesauce, as do I, so we're steadily plowing through it...and I know that when it's all gone I can ask Grandpa for more, but it's slow process.  X is getting applesauce every night at the end of supper.  He likes it so much we have to wait to give it to him until he eats the rest of his food.  It's sweet enough, he doesn't like to finish his veggies or bread or meat if there's applesauce involved.  It's a good, healthy dessert for him, though. :)

Once I have 2-3 empty jars, I will dye some wool.
Which I guess means I still have to pick something from my list.  It'll be at least a week before we clean out another jar!

  1. that looks like it will be a lot of fun! Koolaid/jello wool dying is on my list too.
How about checking out your local thrift shop? I know I've found some mason jars at the Salvation Army a few times.

PS- Homemade applesauce is awesome :)

  2. That's a great idea! :) I'll have to keep that in mind. My mom told me shortly after I posted that she's got plenty I can use - and then I can savor the applesauce!
